Dr. Dre Slams Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene For Using His Song In Political Ad: I Don’t License My Music To Politicians, Especially Someone As Divisive & Hateful As This One

Dr. Dre (real name Andre Romelle Young) is not here for politicians using his music to promote their agendas, especially not Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia lawmaker, posted a professionally-produced video to her social media accounts of herself strutting through the halls of Congress, highlighting the fact that she assisted in Rep. Kevin McCarthy‘s election as House Speaker after a protracted campaign. Greene is even seen accepting a call from Donald Trump at one point while Dr. Dre‘s “Still D.R.E.” rhythm plays in the background of the video.

In response, Dr. Dre said,

“I don’t license my music to politicians, especially someone as divisive and hateful as this one.”

Dr. Dre is just the latest musician to call out Republicans for using their songs in political ads or at campaign rallies without receiving permission.

As previously reported, the estate of Isaac Hayes forbid Donald Trump from using the late singer’s music during his presidential campaign. Hayes‘ estate and family previously shared that they’re looking into a variety of legal alternatives to prohibit the unlawful use of his music by Trump.

According to a statement shared via Twitter:

“Once again, The estate and family of Isaac Hayes DID NOT approve the use of “Hold on I’m coming’” by Sam and Dave by Donald Trump at his 2024 Presidential announcement tonight. We are exploring multiple legal options to stop this unauthorized use.”

In a follow-up tweet, the statement continued,

“Stopping a politician from using your music is not always an easy task, but we are dedicated to making sure that Donald Trump does not continue to use “Hold on I’m Coming” by written by Isaac Hayes an David Porter in further rallies and public appearances.”

Trump has frequently disregarded requests from a growing list of well-known artists to stop playing their music at his campaign rallies and other political events. Several musical acts took issue with him using their music during his first presidential campaign in 2015–2016, as well as during his tenure in office.

The growing list includes Adele, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Panic! at the Disco, Guns N’ Roses, Rihanna, as well as the estates of Tom Petty and Prince.
