‘Fresh Prince’ Actress Tatyana Ali Joins ‘Bel-Air’ Cast for Season 2
Season two of Bel-Air is bringing on some familiar faces!
Great news for fans of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air! According to reports, Tatyana Ali, who played Ashley Banks on the hit 90s sitcom, will be making an appearance in the upcoming season of the reboot, Bel-Air. The actress will be playing Mrs. Hughes, an English middle school teacher “who sees something special” in the reboot’s Ashley (played by Akira Akbar).
Yesterday (Jan. 19) Tatyana Ali addressed her new role via Twitter. In part, she said,
“Cats out the bag. There’s no going back now. … Buckle up!”

She also responded to the series creator, Morgan Cooper, who thanked her for blessing the show with her “brilliance” and said,
“Thank you for blessing me with such an incredible part and experience.”

Tatyana Ali isn’t the only person coming to shake things up for season two of Bel-Air. As previously reported, rapper Saweetie is also set to appear in the spinoff and will be playing herself! As you may already know, this isn’t the first time the “My Type” rapper has worked in television. She was a guest on Grown-ish during season 3. Saweetie appeared in three episodes and played the character Indigo.
Carla Banks Waddles, the new showrunner for Bel-Air, spoke on what fans can expect to see during season two and said,
“In season two, the show will continue to find ways to push the envelope and feel refreshing and unique while also honoring the heart of the legacy series.”
Waddles added,
“Last season was very much about the introduction to the Banks family world, and this season we get to go deeper with some of the themes we touched on … What it truly means to be a family even when it’s challenging. We’ll also explore Will’s character beyond feeling like a fish-out-of-water. He’s now struggling to find a balance of maintaining his independence and his West Philly identity while also being open to new opportunities for himself in Bel-Air.”
