According to reports, Angila Baxter, the mother of R&B singer Sammie, was arrested on Jan. 17 for allegedly killing an Orange County woman. On Sunday night (Jan. 22) Sammie took to Instagram to speak out after his mother was booked. The 35-year-old wrote:
“In consideration of the recent news, I would first like to express my most sincere condolences to the family of Mrs. Collier.”

Sammie continued:
“I understand the severity of the allegations, but I do not have any additional information.”
The Florida native added:
“At this time, I respectfully request privacy for not only my family, but for the family of Mrs. Collier. Thank you.”

Angila Baxter faces a murder charge in the death of 27-year-old Nekaybaw Collier. Reportedly, Collier was hit by Baxter’s random gunfire. On Jan. 20 the Orange County Sheriff’s Office took to Twitter to announce Baxter’s detainment.

Authorities found Collier’s body in a crashed car less than a mile away from her home. According to statements, she had been shot in her abdomen, with one bullet hole observed on the driver’s side of her vehicle. Collier, who was a mother to two daughters, was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

According to the affidavit, a witness informed a deputy in the area of the crime scene, claiming that a woman driving a red SUV was “sitting in the middle of the road” and “shooting at people driving past her.” Another person also approached deputies alleging that a woman in a red SUV stopped next to her and exclaimed “why the (expletive) are you following me? Who are you?” before she drove off and heard two thumps from the back of her vehicle, which were later determined to be gunfire. Sammie’s mother was identified from a photographic lineup by a witness who lives in the area and saw her shoot at the second and third victims’ vehicles, deputies said.

After searching Baxter’s home, deputies discovered several guns, including a Taurus .38 special revolver. The affidavit states that Baxter admitted to investigators that she shot at the vehicles attempting to “scare them” away because she assumed they were following her.
