Patti LaBelle Says She’s Open To Dating At 78: I’m Too Good To Be Solo

Patti LaBelle is ready for cupid to strike his arrow! 

Patti LaBelle appeared on Tuesday’s episode (Feb. 7) of “The Jennifer Hudson Show” where the two vocalists discussed their view on love as Valentine’s Day approaches. After show host Jennifer Hudson asked Patti LaBelle if she was open to dating, the “On My Own” singer revealed:

“Well sorta, kinda. How old am I? 78.”

In the summer of 1969, LaBelle married Armstead Edwards. However, their marriage ended in 2003 when the former love birds realized they grew apart. The singer continued:

“I was married for 32 years to a wonderful man and we’re still friends, good friends.”

She added:

“So I think in life I need to find happiness for myself, other than what I had back in the day with him, which was wonderful. But I’m too good to be solo.” 

EGOT winner Jennifer Hudson then asked the singer-turned-cookbook author if she ever uses dating apps. LaBelle replied:

“What’s that? What are dating apps?”

After Jennifer Hudson, 41, explained what dating apps are, LaBelle recalled:

“Oh that stuff, I’ve seen that commercial!”

Despite not using dating apps. the Godmother of Soul seems to be doing just fine in the love department. She let Hudson know that she’s ready to mingle and already has “a nice person in mind.”

However, she didn’t share who the mystery man is and added:

“That’s my personal business.” 

The beloved singer, real name Patricia Louise Holte, began her music career in the 1960s. She recently performed last December and had to be rushed off stage mid-performance due to a bomb threat. As previously reported, LaBelle’s performance at the Riverside Theatre in Milwaukee, W.I., was interrupted over the dangerous threat. Initially, the “New Attitude” singer was unaware of why security was rushing her off stage and demanded that they “wait” as she continued her show. However, after she was seemingly informed of the possible danger, she quickly followed them off the stage.
