Tory Lanez’s Sentencing Date For Shooting Megan Thee Stallion Pushed Back + Judge Lifts Gag Order That Prevented Him From Speaking On The Case
Tory Lanez’s sentencing date has been pushed back to April 10 for the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.
According to crime-based reporter Meghann Cuniff, Tory Lanez’s sentencing date in his assault case has been rescheduled from February 28 to April 10. In addition to that, the judge has reportedly lifted the gag order that prevented him from speaking on the high-profile case or victim Megan Thee Stallion.
As you may already know, during the summer of 2020, rap star Tory Lanez, 30, shot fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion, 28, as she walked away from a vehicle they were in. Due to the injury, she reportedly received immediate medical attention and had to undergo surgery to remove bullet fragments from her feet.
On December 23, 2022, a jury found Lanez guilty of all three felony charges he faced — assault with a semiautomatic firearm, vehicle possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
Following the guilty verdict, the Canadian native has acquired a new legal team to assist in getting his conviction overturned. If unsuccessful in his appeal, Lanez is facing deportation and a possible 22 years in prison.
As previously reported, Lanez fired his trial legal team and hired attorney David Kenner, who successfully represented hip-hop icon Suge Knight in a ’90s robbery case. It’s important to note that David Kenner did not represent the music executive when he was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter and sentenced to 28 years in prison in 2018. Additionally, David Kenner also reportedly got rapper Snoop Dogg acquitted on a murder trial in the ’90s.
Most recently, Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, brought on Casey Anthony’s former attorney Jose Baez to his appeal team. Many know Jose Baez for famously winning an acquittal for Casey Anthony after she was suspected of killing her young daughter, Caylee Anthony. The evidence and signs from the prosecution seemingly pointed to Casey Anthony, however, Jose Baez’s argument placed reasonable doubt in the minds of the jurors by accusing Casey’s father of the heinous crime.
He also represented the late football player Aaron Hernandez in a double murder case. Baez was in the midst of filing an appeal for Aaron Hernandez’s murder conviction when the athlete committed suicide.
