Michael K. Williams – Drug Dealer Who Sold The Actor Heroin Laced With Fentanyl, Pleads Guilty & Is Facing 40 Years
The drug dealer in connection to Michael K. Williams’ overdose has pleaded guilty.
On Wednesday (Apr. 5) Irving Cartagena, 39, – also known as “Green Eyes” – pleaded guilty for selling Michael K. Williams heroin laced with fentanyl which led to the actor’s fatal overdose. Reportedly, surveillance cameras captured Irving Cartagena and Michael K. Williams’ drug transaction around the corner from his Brooklyn penthouse apartment a day before he died. The now-jailed-drug dealer is set to be sentenced in August and faces up to 40 years in prison.
NYPD Detective Mark Gurleski wrote a statement in regards to Cartagena’s guilty plea. Four months prior to Williams‘ death, the defendant also allegedly sold drugs to undercover informants. He reportedly said:
“Williams died as a result of using that fentanyl-laced heroin.”
Gurleski called out the defendant for being coldhearted for allegedly continuing to sell the laced product around the neighborhoods of Brooklyn. He added:
“Despite knowing that Williams died after buying the [drug trafficking organization]’s product, [Cartagena] has continued to sell fentanyl-laced heroin, in broad daylight, amidst residential apartment buildings.”
As previously reported, “The Wire” star died at 54 on Sept. 6, 2021 after he overdosed on a combination of heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine. Four men, including Cartagena, were arrested last February in New York on conspiracy charges that could put them behind bars for up to 40 years. Cartagena faces additional charges connected to the “Boardwalk Empire” stars’ death that could land him an additional 20 years.
