Angela Bassett, Beyonce, and Michael B. Jordan are all featured on Time’s 100 most influential people list.
The magazine honors 100 individuals each year for its iconic list, along with the featured honorees are celebratory blurbs written by big-name contributors. The list also highlights notable authors, comedians, sports stars and other influential figures.
Angela Bassett received a celebratory message from the legendary Tina Turner. Notably, the actress played the singer in the 1993 film “What’s Love Got To Do With It?” Turner recalled feeling “skeptical” when filming began for the movie.
She said,
“First of all, who are they going to find to sing, dance, and act like me? Then, I looked up, saw Angela, and immediately started to smile.”

Bassett never “mimicked” Turner, instead, she,
“reached deep into your soul, found your inner Tina, and showed her to the world.”
Tina Turner continued,
“That’s your gift, becoming your character with conviction, truth, dignity, and grace, even when it’s painful, and takes everything you have and more. It’s not just acting, it’s being. “
Michael B. Jordan is at the top of the ‘Artists’ list and received a warm message from Ryan Coogler, the director of “Black Panther” and “Creed.”
Coogler wrote,
“He has toiled away on network television, cable, independent cinema, midbudget studio fare, and Hollywood blockbusters alike, always with a blue collar approach…With this year’s Creed III, he took on a new role—feature-film director—and handled it with aplomb. I knew he would.”

Beyonce made the famed list alongside Angela Bassett. The pop superstar received praise from DJ/producer Honey Dijon who highlighted a 2003 performance from Queen Bey that left her in awe.
“Her performance embodied the legacy and culture of Black artists from Josephine Baker to Tina Turner, James Brown, and Prince. The way she commanded the stage and led her band was transcendent. That performance secured her place in the pantheon as one of the greatest Black female artists of our time.”
