Ne-Yo & The Mother To Two Of His Children Sade Fight In Court Over Custody Agreement + Singer Asks Judge To Order A Paternity Test For Their Newborn & To Legally Give The Child His Last Name
R&B singer Ne-Yo has reportedly found himself engaged in a court battle.
According to a report from Radar Online, the 43-year-old is disputing with the mother of two of his children – a woman named Sade – over the legal rights of their young children.
Reportedly, the legal drama began after Ne-Yo, born Shaffer Chimere Smith, filed a paternity suit against Sade last month. In the legal document, the “Miss Independent” singer reportedly claimed to have two children with her, identifying sons Braiden – who they reportedly welcomed in 2021, and Brixton who came in February of this year. Ne-Yo reportedly also asked the judge to have a DNA test done on Brixton to establish him as the father, and to give the boy the last name Smith (presumably so that he can collect inheritance someday).
Ne-Yo is reportedly bumping heads with Sade over his desire for joint physical and legal custody, however. The singer reportedly also wants the court to determine how much and when he should pay child support. Sade reportedly submitted a counterclaim asking the judge to only grant Ne-Yo joint legal custody, seeking primary physical custody for herself. This basically means while the musician would have a say in big decisions for their children, Sade would control the visiting parameters – which she’s reportedly already outlined for the court.
The woman reportedly asked that Ne-Yo be allowed to get the children every other weekend with alternating holiday time. Additionally, she asked for court ordered temporary and permanent child support, as well as reimbursement for “a fair portion of any medical, educational, extracurricular, insurance, or other expenses related to the minor children” that she has had and will have to take care of. Ne-Yo reportedly hasn’t yet responded to the countersuit, and the report added that Sade “did not address” the paternity request, simply adding:
“[Ne-Yo] is the biological father of the parties’ minor children.”
As we previously reported, rumors of Sade welcoming her second son with Ne-Yo began to circulate back in March. She was already identified as the person who allegedly welcomed her first child with the singer while he was still married to his now ex wife Crystal Renay. If you recall, Renay outed her then husband as being a serial cheater, sharing her intention to divorce. After 8 years of marriage, the former couple share three children Isabella Rose, 1, Roman Alexander-Raj, 4, and Shaffer Chimere Jr., 6.
