GloRilla Corrects Fan Who Says Drake Receiving The Key To Memphis Is ‘Disrespectful’ To City Natives
GloRilla recently had to set the record straight surrounding her accomplishments.
Earlier this week Drake, 36, made headlines for being honored with a key to Memphis by the City Council for frequently mentioning the city in his music. In addition to shouting out the Tennessee city in the rap lyrics, the Toronto native’s father – Dennis Graham – is from Memphis. Footage from the big day showed the “Take Care” rapper smiling big as he received his latest award.
Councilwoman Jana Swearengen-Washington posted images from the ceremony on Instagram. She captioned the post,
“It’s an honor to celebrate Drake’s support of Memphis and Memphians in the heart of my district! We appreciate his music and his generous spirit! We truly soar in District 4!”
Unfortunately, not everyone was happy that a non-Memphis native received a key to the city. One Twitter user wrote,
“This so disrespectful to Dolph, Key Glock, Glorilla, 3 6mafia, yo gotti, money bag…….need I go on?!”
They added,
“So because his family from there, that mean he deserve it? Lol ok. And I was just naming people I know off top from Memphis so y’all leave me alone”
GloRilla, 23, soon replied to the fan and let them know that she’s already been awarded a key to her home city. She wrote,
“I got this key almost a year ago [red heart emojis]”
GloRilla first gained notoriety with the release of her 2022 hit song “F.N.F. (Let’s Go).” Since then, she has signed with Collective Music Group, which was founded by fellow rapper Yo Gotti. Her “Tomorrow 2” remix alongside Cardi B has reached the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100. In addition to all of that, GloRilla was recently named a member of XXL’s 2023 Freshman Class.
