Usher’s Ex-Wife Tameka Foster Starts Petition In Honor Of Her Son’s Lake Lanier Death
Tameka Foster is honoring her late son Kile Glover in a big way.
The fashion designer and stylist – who was previously married to R&B singer Usher – recently took to Instagram to share that she created a Change.org petition for her late son Kile. As you may recall, in July 2012 Kile was involved in a horrific accident when a Jet Ski collided with the inner tube he was riding on during a family outing at Lake Lanier. Unfortunately, the 11-year-old was seriously injured during the collision and two weeks later he succumbed to his injuries.
In her petition, Tameka Foster is asking that better safety measures are implemented at Lake Lanier, which is located just outside of Atlanta. She’s also calling for the lake to be drained, cleaned and restored.
For those unaware, Lake Lanier is notorious for tragic accidents and deaths. Several innocent people have been killed at this lake due to accidental incidents, drownings, etc.
According to the petition,
“By acknowledging and addressing these risks, we can foster an environment that prioritizes the well-being of all individuals. It has been reported as the most polluted lake in Georgia and ranked as one of the 10 most polluted lakes in the United States.”
In her Instagram post, Tameka Foster acknowledged her son’s tragic passing and pointed out the changes that she wants to see done at Lake Lanier.
She wrote,
“On this significant day, July 6, we remember the tragic accident on Lake Lanier that forever altered my life. My courageous son, Kile Glover, fought for two weeks with unwavering strength until his passing on July 21. Today, we honor his memory by rallying together for change.”
She continued,
“Let’s ensure a safer future by demanding improved safety measures, better zoning, and the removal of haunted debris from the lake. Join me in signing the petition and sharing this vital cause. Together, we can create a fresh start and bring about lasting transformation. #JusticeForKile#SignForSafety#IWILLFIGHTTILTHEENDOFMYDAYS”
In a 2021 interview with Essence, Tameka said she had forgiven Jeffrey Hubbard, the family friend who was driving the jet ski that struck her son Kile. In 2014, Hubbard was sentenced to four years in prison after being found guilty of homicide by vessel, serious injury by vessel, and unlawful operation of a personal watercraft.
Tameka said,
“I forgive him. I forgave him a long time ago because I know that it wasn’t intentional. The accident wasn’t intentional. It was exactly that — it was an accident. He went to jail for it, just for the negligence. I forgive him because I think he’s suffering (too), and I think he’s suffering enough.”
Kile’s passing came as Tameka Foster and Usher were in the midst of a custody battle of their two children, Usher V and Naviyd Ely, which the singer won. The couple was married from 2007 to 2009.
