Jamie Foxx Is Officially Back To Work, Actor Set To Produce Doc On Legendary Singer Luther Vandross
Jamie Foxx has a new project in the works nearly three months after his hospitalization.
According to reports, actor Jamie Foxx is set to serve as producer for a documentary on the life and career of legendary singer Luther Vandross. Colin Firth is also set to produce the first-ever documentary on the multi-Grammy Award winner, who died in 2005 at age 54. In addition, award-winning documentary filmmaker Dawn Porter will direct the project.

In a statement, Jamie Foxx said of the R&B singer,
“Luther is one of our GOATs. He’s one of the greatest singers in the history of music. It is truly an honor to be a part of the team to help bring this incredible story to the masses.”
Reportedly, Luther Vandross began his career singing backup for entertainers like Roberta Flack, Chaka Khan, Bette Midler, Diana Ross, and David Bowie. Throughout his career, he won eight Grammys and sold 40 million albums worldwide. At the 2004 Grammy Awards, the late singer won four honors which included Song of the Year for the touching classic, “Dance With My Father.”
The documentary has been cleared by Luther Vandross’ close family and friends. It will even include “access to his never-before-seen personal archive,” reports state. The film “will follow the iconic artist as he charted his own course becoming one of the most decorated and influential pop artists of all time.” The project will also “capture the intensely private Grammy-winning artist’s passion for music, global rise, and personal struggles.”
Director Dawn Porter shared,
“Like so many, I have always loved Luther’s music, but I had no idea of the breadth and scope of his artistry. I think people will be surprised at how much he accomplished in his tragically short life. It is a joy to be able to share his true story.”
As you may already know, Foxx has been spotted out a few times recently since his health scare back in April. The entertainer went off the radar after being rushed to the hospital. While the nature of Foxx’s condition has not been released, he appears to be back in the swing of things.
Foxx made his first public outing when he was spotted on a boat waving to fans on July 9.
After that, Foxx was spotted playing a game of golf at a Topgolf driving range. An eyewitness told TMZ that Foxx was playing better than the people he was competing against. They also said he had a very strong swing and actually won the game.
More recently, the 55-year-old comedian was seen helping out a fan. Apparently, a woman riding on a pedicab through downtown Chicago lost her purse as Foxx’s chauffeur-driven SUV rode next to it. Somehow, Foxx was able to retrieve the lost item and returned it back to the woman.
