Sheryl Lee Ralph is opening up about her son going through two life-changing incidents.
In a new interview, actress Sheryl Lee Ralph, 66, recalled some terrifying moments she went through in 2013 with her son Etienne, 31. During the chat, the “Abbott Elementary” star shared that one incident involved Etienne experiencing a terrible car accident that caused him brain damage.

She explained,
“When Etienne was in college, he had a car accident and suffered a concussion. It changed his whole brain.”
Sheryl Lee Ralph continued and recalled another scary moment Etienne faced.
“Then he got mugged, and they shot him three times. He woke up in the hospital with two bullets in his leg and a wound in his forehead where a bullet had grazed him.”
Reportedly, upon hearing the news that her son had been shot, Ralph “collapsed and dropped the phone.”
The Emmy Award-winner said,
“I didn’t even listen to the rest. But they didn’t kill him, thank God. Now he runs his own production company and nonprofit, WalkGoodLA, which is centered around healing, mental health and overall well-being.”

Despite the setbacks, Etienne appears to be in a much better place in life and recently announced his engagement in a post to Instagram. Earlier this month, the businessman shared a montage of photos showcasing the moment he proposed. He captioned the post,
“From strangers to soulmates. July 6th will always be the day our lives changed. Issa fiancé!”
