Doja Cat Feels ‘Free’ After Losing More Than 500k Instagram Followers Over Harsh Remarks To Fans: ‘I Can Reconnect w/ The People Who Really Matter’
Doja Cat isn’t losing any sleep over the people who have decided to stop showing her support.
As previously reported, last month Doja Cat, real name Amala Dlamini, found herself at the center of a major controversy over the way she treats her fans. The incident kicked off after the “Say So” rapper blasted her supporters for referring to themselves as “kittenz.” She said,
“my fans don’t get to name themselves s**t. if you call yourself a ‘Kitten’ or f***ing ‘Kittenz’ that means you need to get off your phone and get a job and help your parents with the house.”

Despite people pulling up old Tweets of Doja Cat using the fandom name herself, she stood by her views and continued to call her followers out over the term. After a Twitter user asked the Grammy Award winner to at least say she loves her fans, she replied,
“I don’t though cuz I don’t even know yall”

A fan then argued that Doja’s fandom doesn’t know her personally but they still show her love and support. However, the 27-year-old artist was seemingly unmoved by their statement and fired back,
“nobody forced you idk why you’re talking to me like you’re my my mother b**ch you sound like a crazy person”

Doja’s remarks ultimately led to some of her biggest fan accounts deleting their social media pages. In addition, she reportedly lost over 500,000 followers on Instagram. However, it appears that Doja was able to find some good from the crazy situation. Today (Aug. 16) She shared via her IG Stories that she now feels “free” and can “reconnect” with the people who really love her. She wrote,
“Seeing all these people unfollow makes me feel like l’ve defeated a large beast that’s been holding me down for so long and it feels like I can reconnect with the people who really matter and love me for who i am and not for who i was.”
Doja added,
“I feel free”

Despite losing over half a million followers, Doja still has 25.1 million followers on Instagram and her fan base will more than likely be just fine.
