Drake’s Dad Defends The Rapper’s Choice To Remain Silent On The Israel-Hamas War: ‘If You Say Something…You’re Going To Get Criticized’

The father of rap star Drake is speaking out against backlash his son has been receiving.

After the musician was slammed recently for not taking a stance on the devastating war happening in Gaza, Dennis Graham explained why he thinks Drake made that choice.

Reportedly, the celebrity dad stated when asked about the topic:

“If you say something about this one you’re going to get criticized, right, and if you say something about someone else you’re going to get [criticized]…So stay out of it, you know, like especially if you’re somebody that’s well known.”

Adding:

“Being a celebrity and [saying] something favoring one against the other and it’s going to come back on you,”

Dennis Graham’s comments come days after culture commentator DJ Vlad called out Drake and DJ Khaled for failing to use their platforms to speak on the war. In case you’re unfamiliar, an alleged terrorist group called the Hamas reportedly launched a missile attack on the citizens of Israel last week, sparking a full on war on the Gaza strip between the Israelis and Palestines. As we covered, pop star Bruno Mars had to cancel two appearances in the Middle East due to having to immediately evacuate because of the conflict.

The situation has caused many celebrities to speak for or against one side or the other, which is why DJ Vlad took issue with the silence of Drake, who is of Jewish decent, and DJ Khaled, who is of Palestinian descent. He wrote on X (formerly Twitter):

“Has anyone noticed that the most famous Jewish person on Earth, Drake, and the most famous Palestinian person on Earth, DJ Khaled, haven’t said a single thing about the Gaza-Israel conflict? It’s not like Drake is too busy. He’s been writing paragraphs about Joe Budden hurting his feelings about his new album. DJ Khaled has been working overtime promoting his new Jordan sneakers. But both of them have been silent on this topic. Why is that?”

And continued:

“It’s because both are so thirsty to maintain their relevance that they wouldn’t dare risk insulting a segment of their fanbase. Heaven forbid that Drake might debut at #2 behind Taylor Swift because some of his Palestinian fans chose to not stream his album. And it would be the end of the world if Khaled sold a few less sneakers because some Jewish people decided not to buy his Jordans. That’s the difference between artists of today and timeless legends like 2Pac. You know d*mn well Pac would be the first one to speak out about something so close to home.”

While Dennis may be correct in assuming that taking a stance will draw criticism, the risk doesn’t seem to have stopped celebs such as Ciara, Lebron James, and others from speaking out against war and oppression. It does not appear that Drake nor DJ Khaled have broken their silence about the matter at this time.
