Whoopi Goldberg Reportedly Wants To Cast Jennifer Hudson In Upcoming ‘Sister Act 3’ Film

Looks like Whoopi Goldberg is building an all-star line-up for her next “Sister Act” film.

According to reports, the TV host has set her eyes on EGOT winner Jennifer Hudson to star in the production and is ready to “move fast” to get the deal finalized.

Reportedly, a source familiar with the matter stated that Jennifer Hudson’s potential for the franchise became clear after she dressed as Whoopi Goldberg’s character Sister Mary Clarence last Halloween. On her talk series, the former “American Idol” contestant performed a montage of hits from the movie franchise, blowing audience members away. The source reportedly stated about the matter:

“One person that Whoopi would like to add to the film is Jennifer Hudson, especially after seeing what Jennifer did with the character when she did Sister Act for Halloween last year on her show,”

Adding:

‘It would be a no-brainer to get Jennifer, Whoopi would really love for that to happen.’

Continuing, the source reportedly stated that Goldberg is eager to get the ball rolling once the actors’ strike ends, and plans to present Hudson an offer immediately. As we covered back in 2020, fans of the musical comedy were excited to learn that a third installment to the “Sister Act” franchise was officially in the works, with Tyler Perry signing on as the producer.

As news of the project started to circulate, many began speculating about which cast members would return, and new faces could be added. Goldberg confirmed that she would indeed be reprising her iconic role, and is reportedly in talks with famed English actress Dame Maggie Smith to return as the Mother Superior. Along with Hudson, it’s also been discussed that actress/singer Keke Palmer could potentially join the cast. While visiting Goldberg’s talk show last year, the “Nope” star let it be known she was “available for the job,” to which Goldberg responded:

“I already brought it up”

Though no other details about the project have been released as of late, the source claimed that the movie is definitely moving forward once Hollywood resumes business as usual. They reportedly stated:

‘The new Sister Act is going to happen. They have the idea, they have Whoopi. Once the strikes are done, they are ready to make the film for the fans and a new generation,”

And added:

“They aren’t at a dead end; they are more at a stoplight. They have to figure out money, and who to cast but Whoopi is very anxious to get the ball rolling and she feels once Hollywood gets back to work, Sister Act will then move fast.”
