Did money problems cause Mia Thornton to walk away from her marriage?

In September news broke that “Real Housewives of Potomac” star Mia Thornton’s marriage to Gordon Thornton was coming to an end. The pair jumped the broom in 2012 and, over the course of their relationship, welcomed two children together, son Jeremiah Carter, 8, and daughter Juliana, 6.

They both also reportedly have one child from previous relationships. Mia and Gordon Thornton’s marital issues will more than likely play out in the current season of “RHOP,” but for those who can’t wait for the drama to unfold, it looks like the tea surrounding the former love birds is spilling off the reality TV screen as well.

During a recent appearance on Andy Cohen’s “Watch What Happens: Live,” Ashley Darby touched on her Potomac co-star’s love life and revealed how she’s been doing since separating from Gordon. When asked if she believed financial issues were truly what caused them to call things off, Ashley Darby replied,

“As far as what Mia is saying, it’s financial strain and I think she’s saying that because she wants to protect Gordon. There’s a lot more to the situation that she’s keeping to herself for her children and everything.”

She continued,

“And she’s actually doing very well. Mia is living, when I say ‘her best life,’ she’s living her very best life.

Ashley Darby added that Mia has a “friend” in Atlanta who is seemingly keeping her happy and occupied.

Last month Gordon accused his soon-to-be-ex-wife of only marrying him for his money. He also touched on the new guy she’s rumored to be dating, however, it’s unclear if he was referring to the same man as Ashley. He said,

“I do agree that Mia married me for my money and the future that she thought I could provide…I absolutely believe her leaving me now is tied to the fact that I don’t have access to assets and my funds are limited at this point in time…this guy that she’s seeing she believes has access to funds…she’s mentioned that their going to be buying a house together and doing businesses together…which tells me that the interest is based on monetary gain from the relationship…she’s leaving me cause she sees an upgrade.”
