Tyrese Accused Of Selling The Rights To Teddy Pendergrass’ Life Story To Warner Bros. After Filing A Lawsuit Against The Late Singer’s Widow

The wife of late singer Teddy Pendergrass has responded to Tyrese Gibson’s lawsuit over the rights to her husband’s biopic.

According to Joan Pendergrass, the “Fast & Furious” star legally has no claim to Teddy’s life story anymore as he apparently sold them off to another company.

In a new court motion obtained by RadarOnline, Joan Pendergrass reportedly argued that Tyrese’s company is attempting to “enforce an unenforceable” agreement, due to another contract they allegedly involved themselves in after their initial agreement was signed. She reportedly wrote in the court document that because Tyrese’s company Voltron Entertainment signed a deal with Warner Bros. back in 2019 under an option agreement, the deal:

 “[made] Warner Bros. the successor-in-interest to Voltron with respect to the Option Agreement and Voltron no longer a party to the Option Agreement.”

The court document reportedly added:

“Voltron’s claims are barred because Voltron seeks to enforce an unenforceable agreement to agree,”

As we previously covered, Tyrese initiated the legal battle with Pendergrass’ wife earlier this year, arguing that she is unlawfully refusing to extend their contract for the singer’s life rights. The entertainer alleged that the two went into a partnership back in 2011 that resulted in Tyrese’s company investing $450,000 into two projects, a book and a biopic about Teddy’s life. Reportedly, the singer-turned-actor sued Perndergrass‘ estate, seeking $1 million in damages or a contract extension.

Speaking out about the lawsuit when news of the case first broke, Tyrese wrote via Instagram:

“I owe it to my mother and Teddy to get this done!! Teddy Movie will happen!…I hate that things had to come to this but God knows my HEART! I Tyrese Gibson was born to play TEDDY!”

A judge has yet to rule on the matter at this time.
