Oprah Winfrey Told Gayle King She Was “Making A D*amn Fool Of Herself” Relentlessly Asking For Jay Z Interview: ‘I Couldn’t Let It Go’

TV broadcaster Gayle King recently shared why her interview with Jay Z almost didn’t happen.

The media personality says that her bestie Oprah Winfrey called her out for insisting on the sit down, despite it seeming like he wasn’t interested.

Reportedly, Gayle King spoke about the matter during a recent interview of her own. When asked about getting the rare opportunity to question Jay Z, real name Shawn Carter, 53, earlier this year, she reportedly stated:

“You know he doesn’t like to do interviews and I was shameless,”

She continued:

“I just groveled [so much] that it became embarrassing…Even Oprah said, ‘You are making a damn fool of yourself. Stop asking him. He doesn’t want to do it.’ But I couldn’t let it go, because he never said no, no, no – he just kept delaying, delaying, delaying.”

If you recall, King got to ask the New York native about the viral internet question of whether people would take $500,000 or lunch with Jay Z. The conversation sent social media users into an polarizing debate of which option held more value, with people vehemently arguing both sides. However, the “4:44” himself  firmly suggested people she definitely take the money. He stated during the interview:

“You’ve gotta take the money. You’ve got all that in the music for $10.99…I wouldn’t tell you to cut a bad deal. Like, take the $500,000, go buy some albums, and listen to the albums.”

However, King says she didn’t let her billionaire friend deter her from getting the Jay Z interview she was long advocating for, stating later in her interview:

“I don’t know why he said yes or why he changed his mind… I’m just grateful that he did,”

The two covered a range of topics during the “CBS Mornings feature”, from the 24x Grammy award winner’s music career, art, as well as family life. He even shared that he and his superstar wife Beyoncé‘s daughter Blue Ivy got her name after the two adorably nicknamed her blueberry because of how she looked in her first sonogram.
