Nicki Minaj Confirms Speculation That Her New Fragrance Was Released Without Her Knowledge: ‘I Had No Idea’

Rap star Nicki Minaj’s fan base was both excited and skeptical about the release of her latest perfume.

After the musician’s new fragrance Pink Friday 2, named after her forthcoming album suddenly dropped online, fans were quick to question her about the situation as they noticed she hadn’t announced it yet.

It seems Nicki Minaj’s loyal fan base, known as the Barbz, knew that the perfume line was available before she did herself. A social media user tweeted the hip hop star asking if she was aware that JC Penny was selling the fragrance, to which she replied:

“I had no idea. Was informed of nothing. Didn’t get a link to post. just woke up one day & boom! saw y’all discussing it. Noreen from my fragrance co advised that she’ll be getting back to me w/answers on this right away. Apparently she had no clue either. Go figure.”

In a few follow posts ,Minaj, real name Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, 40, explained that she was under impression the release would happen on Amazon first and wouldn’t be available in stores for a few more weeks. She wrote in one message:

Oh wow. So not only was that link real but it’s physically in STORES?!?!!!!! Wow. Well boo, thank you for your support.  I don’t even have the official box ORRR bottle yet. I was told it would be on Amazon 1st & JCPenny following week or2 but maybe plans did the ol switcheroo”

Making clear to her fans that they shouldn’t be upset with the retail giant, however, she added in another:

“There clearly was some sort of mix up; but make no mistake, we are honored & grateful to have my official #PinkFriday2PERFUME @ #JCPenny I’ll get back to you guys to confirm the Amazon release date”

Despite a few stumbles with the roll-out it seems the product it already doing exceptionally well. The day after the perfume was made available at JC Penny, many users expressed their disappointment that it sold out before they had a chance to buy. One user even posted a video where she was told by a store clerk that they were already on their last bottle, confirming that the perfume “sold like crazy”.

Looking at the details of the product, and also understanding how hard Minaj fans typically support her, its no wonder why many are excited. Not only does perfume mark the approach of the rapper’s highly anticipated fifth studio album, which it set to debut December 8th, but the bottle designs mirror some of the celebrity’s most iconic looks over the years.

At this time it doesn’t appear the fragrance has been released on Amazon, but it seems Minaj will waste no time letting fans know when it becomes available.
