Lil Nas X Issues Apology After Facing Backlash Over His Portrayal Of Jesus In New Music Video: ‘I Do Want My Christian Fans To Know That I Am Not Against You’
Lil Nas X seems to have taken accountability for his latest song and music video that has caused a stir amongst his Christian fanbase.
Earlier today (Jan. 15), the 24-year-old singer/rapper took to his socials to apologize for his controversial lead single “J Christ” from his upcoming sophomore album. The visual for the single — which dropped over the weekend — faced many negative reactions as the artist was accused of mocking Christianity by appearing to dress up as Jesus.
In the uploaded post, Lil Nas X addressed his critics, claiming that he expected viewers of his music video to catch on to the message that he was going up against Satan. He also shared that he appeared as Jesus as a way to signify his return to music, in comparison to when Jesus came back from the dead.

Lil Nas X, real name Montero Hill, explained:
“I’m not the first person to dress up as Jesus, I’m not the first rapper, I’m not the first artist, and I won’t be the last.”
The “Industry Baby” artist went on and referred to another controversial video of his making its rounds online. In hopes of easing the tension following his Jesus role play, Nas X shared a (seemingly playful) video of himself participating in a communion by scarfing down crackers and grape juice.

In case you’re unaware, communion is the service of Christian worship where believers remember Jesus’ sacrifice. It is accompanied by a small piece of bread and a sip of wine.
While speaking on the communion video, Nas X said:
“I did not mean it as like a cannibalism thing or whatever the freak. But, I do apologize for that. I will say I am sorry for that, that was overboard. Though I don’t agree with all of Christianity’s rules or what not, I know not everybody follows Christianity by the book 100% or you know the world would be a lot crazier. But I do apologize for that.”
He continued:
“This is not like, to get everybody on my good side or what not, this is more so to clear my own head about my own decisions. I know I messed up like, really bad this time. And I can act unbothered all I want but it’s definitely taking a mental toll on me.”
The “Old Town Road” hitmaker then shared:
“[But] I do want my Christian fans to know that I am not against you. I was put on this earth to bring people closer together and promote love, that’s who I am. I’m not some evil demon guy trying to destroy everybody’s values and stuff like that. That’s not me.”
He concluded:
“Lastly, again, I hope sooner or later we can move forward and I’m excited for the rest of this era and things I have planned. That’s all I have to say for right now. I’m sending you guys love, sending my fans love, I’m sending the people who I hurt love. Yeah. Muah.”
