Travis Kelce Says Controlling His Emotions ‘Has Been The Battle Of My Career’ While Apologizing To Chiefs Coach Andy Reid For Nearly Pushing Him Down During Heated Super Bowl Moment
NFL star Travis Kelce is taking accountability for his Super Bowl misstep.
The athlete apologetically discussed the intense moment he nearly knocked down his coach Andy Reid while frustrated during the game, and admitted his behavior was “unacceptable.”

Travis Kelce spoke about the matter during a recent episode of his podcast New Heights, which he hosts with his brother Jason Kelce. Admitting his actions “crossed a line,” the 34-year-old stated:
“I can’t get that fired up to the point where I’m bumping coach, and it’s getting him off balance and stuff…When he stumbled I was like, ‘Oh, s–t,’ in my head.”

After being chastised by his elder brother for being “over the top,” the tight end went on to clarify that he has nothing but respect for his coach and explained he really just wanted to be in the game at that moment. He continued:
“I’m not playing for anybody else but Big Red … and I got a certain relationship with him…I just wanted to let him know that I wanted this thing, and he can put it on me.”
Adding:
“I got him.”
In case you weren’t tuned in to the Super Bowl this past Sunday (February 11th), there were many intense moments where the game seemed it could go either way. In the first half, the San Francisco 49ers dominated the field, putting pressure on the Kansas City Chiefs who were gunning for a back-to-back championship. Kelce went on in the podcast to explain that the team not performing well at the time was ultimately what sparked his confrontation with Reid. Though many understood the moment was a high-pressure situation for the Chiefs, social media users and sports commentators still condemned Kelce, arguing the physical contact with Reid has no credible excuse.

It seems that upon reflecting on the moment, Kelce agrees with the general consensus. The sports star continued, reiterating his love for his coach during the interview and explained that his temperament has been a struggle throughout his entire career. He added:
“Sometimes those emotions just get away from me, man. That’s been the battle of my career…I couldn’t be more proud of being his product on the field…and I couldn’t be more proud of where we’ve come as the team since I got here in 2013.”

And continued:
“I just love playing for the guy, man…Unfortunately, sometimes my passion comes out where it looks like it’s negativity. I’m grateful he knows it’s all because I want to win this thing with him more than anything…It just fired me up even more to go out there and get a f–king victory for him…Big Red, sorry if I caught you with that cheap shot, baby.”
