Michael Jackson’s Accusers To Combine Their Lawsuits Against Late Singer’s Companies Over Sexual Abuse Claims
The two men who accused Michael Jackson of sexually abusing them when they were children won’t have to fight their cases separately anymore.
Reportedly, Wade Robson and James Safechuck will combine their cases after getting approval from Michael Jackson’s companies. The joint case means there will only be one trial.
Wade Robson and James Safechuck first attempted to bring their case to court in 2013 and 2014 with accusations that the late pop singer abused them when they were minors after initially coming into contact with the entertainer professionally.
James Safechuck, at age 9, appeared with the pop musician in a 1986 Pepsi commercial. He claimed Michael Jackson called him often and lavished him with gifts before allegedly sexually abusing him by the age of 10.
Meanwhile, Wade Robson claimed he met Jackson at age 5 after winning a dance-alike contest when the singer and dancer performed in Brisbane, Australia. His lawsuit alleged that Jackson, known as the ‘King of Pop,’ molested him for years starting at the age of 7.
Robson and Safechuck are seeking damages from two entertainment companies, MJJ Productions Inc. and MJJ Ventures Inc., which were solely owned and operated by Jackson for much of their existence.
According to reports, in August 2023, a California appeals court revived lawsuits from Safechuck and Robson after it was most recently dismissed in 2021. This ruling was the second time the lawsuits filed by Robson and Safechuck were brought back after dismissal; the other time was in 2017 when a judge threw them out for being beyond the statute of limitations.
In 2019, the Emmy Award-Winning documentary ‘Leaving Neverland’ premiered on HBO. It detailed descriptions by Safechuck and Robson about the alleged abuse the musical icon inflicted on them at his Neverland Ranch in Santa Barbara County, California.
The Jackson estate has adamantly and repeatedly denied that the late pop icon sexually abused Robson or Safechuck.
Jackson died in June 2009 at age 50 of acute propofol intoxication.
