Marvel Had Plans To Minimize Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror Role Before Conviction, Studio To Move Forward w/ Rewrite & Title Change For Next Avengers Film
It seems Marvel had plans to shake things up a little no matter the outcome of Jonathan Majors’ infamous domestic trial.
According to reports, Marvel is in the process of finding a new title for the forthcoming Avengers movie after deciding to cut ties with Jonathan Majors. Reportedly, the next film in the Avengers series was slated to be called “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.”As you may recall, the 34-year-old actor played Kang the Conqueror in the MCU, appearing in projects such as “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “Loki.”
Quick run-down for those who may have missed what occurred: in December 2023, Jonathan Majors was found guilty of reckless assault and harassment as a violation for a physical dispute he had with his then-girlfriend, British dancer Grace Jabbar, in March of that year. Following his arrest for the incident, a few parties wasted no time ending their work relationship with Majors. Eventually, reports surfaced that Marvel was waiting for the verdict to determine if they would separate from their star entertainer. Not too long after Majors learned his fate in the trial, however, Marvel announced his time portraying Kang was over.
Fast forward to today (Feb. 21) and new reports revealed that Marvel is back at the drawing board, working on not only a new title but also a rewrite of the project. Oddly enough, insiders close to the matter said that the studio was set on minimizing the Kang character even before Majors’ conviction due to “Quantumania” reportedly failing to break even during its theatrical run.
At this time, the new name of the film has not been released. However, the movie will reportedly premiere in May 2026. There have also been whispers that John David Washington is being considered to take over as Kang in the MCU.
