Reportedly, the incident took place at Cocoa Brown’s home in Fayetteville, Georgia this past Sunday (February 18th). Sources close to the comedian have reportedly shared that the entertainer believes a lit candle fell into a pile of clothes, sparking the overwhelming flames. Brown reportedly attempted to douse the fire with a nearby extinguisher, but insiders say the heat quickly engulfed the entire home and became unbearable.

Fortunately, the entertainer was at least able to escape with her 12-year-old son Phoenix and their pets. Unfortunately, reports state they weren’t able to make it out with much else. Reportedly, the family of two lost nearly everything they owned in the fire in addition to their home. For help, Brown’s team and loved ones have launched a GoFundMe dedicated to assisting her rebuild with a goal of $50,000.

A few of the “For Better Or Worse” actress’ industry colleagues have contributed to the cause, including two $5,000 donations from media titan Byron Allen and actor/producer Marlon Wayans. To date, the fundraiser has accumulated nearly $45,000 of the $50,000 goal. A bio of the account reads:
“Today, our community was shaken by the devastating news of Cocoa Brown and her son Phoenix losing their home in a fire. Cocoa, a beacon of joy in our lives through her incredible comedy, now faces an unimaginable challenge as she and her son must rebuild their lives from scratch. While we’re grateful to hear that they are safe, the road ahead is undoubtedly daunting.”

And added:
“We’re launching a fundraising campaign to assist Cocoa and Phoenix as they embark on this journey to start anew….Let’s come together as a community to show Cocoa Brown and Phoenix that they are not alone.”
As the bio states, Brown is an accomplished TV actress who has certainly brought smiles to many. Along with her many standup specials, the entertainer has reportedly appeared in over 60 projects. Her most famous role is arguably her portrayal as the comedic best friend Jennifer in Tyler Perry’s “For Better Or Worse” starring Tasha Smith and Michael Jai White. The series is a spinoff of the hit “Why Did I Get Married” films.
It does not appear that Brown herself has spoken publicly about the fire at this time.
