Kelly Rowland Says No One On ‘Dilemma’ Music Video Set Questioned Her Attempt To Send A Text Via Microsoft Excel: ‘They Made Me Look Nuts’
Famed songstress Kelly Rowland is opening up about the highly criticized moment she wrote a text message in Microsoft Excel.
During a recent interview, the former Destiny’s Child member recalled the scene from Nelly’s 2002 “Dilemma” video and made clear the fault was not only on her.

After the host introduced Kelly Rowland as “the only person in history to successfully send a text message via Microsoft Excel,” the 43-year-old laughed and stated:
“Do you know how much flack I get from that…I’m so used to it now,”
The host went on to inquire whether or not anyone working on the set questioned the concept, to which Rowland jokingly responded:
“No. And I’m actually mad at them that they didn’t because they made me look nuts.”
In case you’re unfamiliar, the aforementioned scene from the video has repeatedly been called into question over the years. Social media users of today’s time have had a recurring obsession with trying to understand why Rowland, or anyone, thought it’d be a good idea to have her texting in a Microsoft Excel draft. Even more so, the songstress becomes upset with Nelly in the video for not responding, causing even more bewilderment and taunting across social media.

Rowland was also asked about the topic during a 2019 appearance on The Real. Host Jeannie Mai, like many others, wondered how the concept came about and made it to the music video’s final cut. In response, Rowland claimed that the director Benny Boom thought the idea was “brilliant,” adding that she personally had no idea what Excel was or why it had recently become a memeable trending topic.

Reports note that Nelly was also asked about the video in a 2016 interview, and explained that Excel just happened to be the latest tech out at the time and understood why it seems “outdated” now. Though many have opted not took look past the texting faux pas, “Dilemma” remains a celebrated classic that reached #1 on Billboard Hot 100, earned the duo a Grammy, and has over 1 billion views on YouTube to date.
