Update: Dame Dash Says He Previously Had To ‘Smack The Sh*t Out Of’ Steve Stoute As He Reacts To Businessman Claiming His Ego Ruined His Relationship w/ Jay-Z
Update: (Mar. 7, 2024): Dame Dash isn’t here for what Steve Stoute had to say about his broken relationship with fellow Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder Jay-Z.
As we reported, during a newly released interview with Shannon Sharpe, Steve Stoute explained why he thinks Jay-Z ultimately decided to sever ties with Dame Dash. In part, the marketing mogul expressed,
“Jay grew up, you know, Jay wanted more. I think Jay seen Dame’s ceiling and I think that’s really want it was. Jay seen Dame’s ceiling…he wanted more.”
He added,
“[Dame’s] far from stupid, he’s very smart, very talented, [but his] ego is through the roof. So there was no working with him. No one wanted to work with him.”
As the interview started to make its rounds on the internet, Dame Dash took to his Instagram to respond. He shared a clip of the conversation and captioned the post.
“This is the reason I had to smack the sh*t out of @stevestoute a couple years ago…because he’s always speaking on other men’s business,”
The post added,
“good thing I’ve evolved #staytuned @clubshayshay #culturevulture”
Original Story: (Mar. 6, 2024): There probably won’t be a kumbaya moment between Steve Stoute and Dame Dash in this lifetime.
It’s no secret that the two entrepreneurs have been feuding for some time. While the exact reason behind their beef remains a mystery, as both have shared conflicting stories over the years, the disconnect seems to have something to do with Jay-Z. The “Run This Town” rapper has ties to both men; most notably co-founding Roc-A-Fella Records alongside Dame Dash in 1994, and partnering with his friend and marketing genius Steve Stoute to launch Translation Advertising in 2008.
In a 2020 interview with the Breakfast Club, Dame Dash alluded that Steve Stoute once threw Jay-Z under the bus. Giving an update on where they stood at the moment, he said,
“I talked to Steve Stoute, He said, ‘You know all those times you were yelling at me about Jay? Jay was setting up those meetings.’ He just threw Jay under the bus, quick.”
Dame never clarified what “meetings” he was referring to, but the men, unfortunately, haven’t found a way to reconcile since the comment was made. In a newly released interview with Shannon Sharpe, Steve Stoute made it clear that whatever the reason for the feud, it’s still very much alive, saying,
“He blew it, He had Jay-Z, the most important artist of his generation.”
When asked “How did that relationship that was so good sour so fast,” Steve expressed,
“Dame’s antics were just – it became – like, people over time, you mature. You didn’t have friends at 16 then by the time you were 19 they were still doing the same sh*t?… You start spending less and less time with them because of it. It’s like one of those things where – Dame wouldn’t change. The way he spoke to people, the way he treated people, he was angry.”
He continued,
“He was angry because he had a strong perspective about his business philosophy and if anytime a partner of theirs tried to like, go around him – meanwhile, the people around him weren’t going around him! The people around him wanted to meet with other people! People were becoming less beholding to him.”
According to Steve, Dame would leave his business responsibilities unattended for an extended period to “go off all around the world with camera and girls and all kinds of crazy sh*t then come back flipping on everybody.”
Steve Stoute calls out Dame Dash and tells Shannon Sharpe that Dame Dash's childish antics, anger issues, and disrespecting people are what destroyed Dame Dash's relationship with Jay-Z.

He continued,
“Bruh, you didn’t build a business that was so operationally tight that you could go away and come back and sh*t would be the same and all that sh*t.”
Addressing why he believes Jay-Z ultimately decided to step away from Dame, he said,
“Jay grew up, you know, Jay wanted more. I think Jay seen Dame’s ceiling and I think that’s really want it was. Jay seen Dame’s ceiling…he wanted more.”
He concluded with,
“[Dame’s] far from stupid, he’s very smart, very talented, [but his] ego is through the roof. So there was no working with him. No one wanted to work with him.”
