Don Lemon Says Return To CNN Is ‘Not In The Cards’: ‘It Would Depend On The Offer’

Update (March 28, 2024): Don Lemon has no plans to return to CNN. The network’s former anchor, who was fired less than a year ago, appeared on the TMZ Podcast and shared if he’d go back, should he be given an “amazing opportunity.”

He joked,

“I think I might be open to it only if they offered me a Tesla truck and equity, and then I could go to … see how stupid that is?”

On a serious note, he added,

“I don’t think that’s in the realm of possibilities.”

He said it felt “surreal” to return to the CNN studio for an interview on his intense sit-down with Elon Musk, however, he said of permanently going back:

“It would depend on the offer. I don’t know if I would want to do a show five days a week. It would just depend on what it is. I have to say, honestly, I don’t think that’s in the cards.”

He called the team “the best journalists in the world,” reiterating that he doesn’t foresee his return, and adding that he has “no tension” with the network.

Original Story (March 22, 2024): Don Lemon recently opened up about how he coped with losing his CNN job last spring.

The political commentator shared that his doctor prescribed him antidepressants to get through the situation, adding that he also experimented with “alternative” prescribed drugs.

Don Lemon discussed the matter during a recent appearance on The Tamron Hall Show. Speaking on being let go at CNN following 17 years with the network, the 58-year-old admitted to Hall:

“I have suffered from depression. I take an antidepressant now.”

Adding:

“It helped me get through the summer after… being fired. I do talk therapy now, but my doctor has also done guided therapy with me on drugs.”

If you recall, Lemon was axed from the Warner Bros.-owned news channel following a controversial remark he made about then-presidential candidate Nikki Haley, and women in general, being past their “prime” after 30. Many felt the comment was sexist, and subsequent reports claimed that an investigation into Lemon’s time at the network found that multiple staff and co-workers accused him of regularly making misogynistic remarks.

After being suspended, Lemon shared in a social media post that he was “stunned” to learn he would not be returning to his position, ending his employment with the network after nearly two decades on air. It wasn’t long before Lemon set into motion his plans to return to hosting, however. Earlier this year, the broadcaster shared that he inked a deal with social media platform X (formerly Twitter), owned and operated by billionaire CEO Elon Musk, and was preparing to release original content on the platform.

Unfortunately, the partnership ended as quickly as it began. Lemon stated earlier this month that after interviewing Musk as the first guest on his new talk series, the Tesla founder decided the platform would no longer be moving forward with their partnership. Lemon stated about the deal going sour:

“Elon Musk has cancelled the partnership I had with X, which they announced as part of their public commitment to amplifying more diverse voices on their platform. He informed me of his decision hours after an interview I conducted with him on Friday.”

However, it seems that the TV personality is holding out for his light at the end of the tunnel. Sources present during his recent interview with Hall shared that Lemon was emotional about all of Hall’s success, seeing as she was able to bounce back greatly following her departure from NBC and MSNBC back in 2017.  The source stated:

“He was crying and happy to see how Tamron rebounded after NBC, and he’s still emotional about everything,”
