The “Like This” artist made headlines earlier this week for putting a security guard in their place while attending a premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. If you saw the footage then you witnessed Kelly defend herself against a staff member who was seemingly doing the most to rush her off the red carpet.

Today (May 23), Kelly addressed what occurred while speaking with press at the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala at Cannes. She said,

“The woman knows what happened. I know what happened. And, I have a boundary. And I stand by those boundaries and that is it.”

Kelly continued,

“There were other women who attended that carpet, who did not quite look like me, and they didn’t get scolded or pushed off or told to get off. And, I stood my ground and she felt like she had to stand hers. But I stood my ground.”

Original Story: (May 22, 2024): Singer and actress Kelly Rowland confronted a security guard on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of the French-Italian film Marcello Mio on Tuesday, May 21st.

The 43-year-old R&B superstar was seen smiling at the crowd as she gracefully ascended the red carpet steps leading into the theater. However, things took a turn when a woman security guard appeared to rush her away from the cameras. It seems this guard may have also stepped on Kelly Rowland’s dress, potentially sparking the heated exchange that followed. Visibly upset, Kelly Rowland pointed her finger at the woman and appeared to scold her before walking away displeased.

Insiders close to the situation report that staff members on the carpet had been aggressive, and by the time Rowland was approached by the woman security guard, she had reached her limit.

After photos and videos of the incident made their way online, social media was abuzz in defense of Rowland, with many users suggesting that, whatever the issue was, security was to blame.
