Country Artist Jelly Roll Says Marijuana Keeps Him Sober From Xanax, Cocaine & Codeine
One rapper-turned-country artist has an interesting method to stay clean from hard drugs.
Amid his rise to stardom, Jelly Roll, born Jason DeFord, has been honest about his rocky past. For those unaware, the CMT Music Awards winner was reportedly in and out of jail facilities, starting at just 14 years old. His rap sheet includes crimes such as drug possession, dealing, and aggravated robbery. In a previous interview, Jelly Roll opened up about his upbringing, sharing that his mother “struggled with drugs.” The “Need A Favor” artist also had a battle with drug addiction. However, he thankfully has since started his sobriety journey and recently shared a tool that helps him stay away from codeine, Xanax, and, cocaine.
During his latest interview, Jelly Roll, 39, revealed that despite how some may feel about the psychoactive drug, “marijuana has kept” him “sober.” He continued,
“I get in trouble for this, all the time, but my stance on marijuana will always be the same: I believe marijuana has helped me in so many regards, with my anxiety. This is a hot button topic, but, truly, marijuana has kept me sober.”
He then expressed,
“I think a world without weed, Jelly Roll’s drinking codeine and popping Xanax and snorting cocaine again, but a world with weed, I’ll be alright.”
Jelly Roll added,
“I know that I have friends that don’t do that. I have friends that are in the program that are totally against any kind of mind-altering anything. I respect that. I have so much respect for those people. That’s just not how my sobriety worked out.”
