Internet Personality, Professor Uju Anya, Sparks Mixed Reactions After Accusing ‘The Boys’ Writer Of Stealing Her Joke For The Series
Popular internet personality Professor Uja Anya is catching some flack online.
The education professional is being called out as many social media users appear to believe she falsely accused a TV series of stealing her joke.
Uja Anya, who boasts a following of more than 200,000 on X (formerly Twitter), made the accusation on her account yesterday (June 19th). The activist reposted a clip from the Amazon/ Sony TV series The Boys, where one of the characters quipped:
“It blows, harder than Nancy Raegan on the MGM backlot.”
Reacting to the clip, Uja Anaya claimed that the joke was stolen from her by writer Jessica Chou, and further claimed that this isn’t the first time this situation has happened to her. Anya went on to share a tweet she posted in 2020 that alleged SNL comic Michael Che ripped off her Prince Harry skit. She wrote in the post:
“Y’all… I can’t believe this happened AGAIN!!A TV writer stole my joke off a hit tweet. Michael Che lifted my Prince Harry bit on SNL. Now, Jessica Chou copied my Nancy Reagan joke on The Boys. Studios need to pay me instead of these thieving hacks”
And added:
“To save you the search, here’s the first time I noticed a TV writer stealing my jokes. That was on NBC Universal. Now Sony Pictures. I’m keeping tabs on studios that need to start paying me since I’m writing on their shows.”
Continuing, Anya tagged the show’s official X account as well as Sony, demanding what she feels she is due. She wrote:
“Hello @TheBoysTVand @SonyPictures. Your writer Jessica Chou on Season 4 Episode 2 of The Boys stole my joke from a very popular and widely circulated tweet. I want payment for my work you commercialized and from which you’re profiting, plus writing credit next to Jessica’s name.
However, it wasn’t long before social media users began discussing how the joke wasn’t original at all. X’s “community forum,” which offers fact checks for controversial viral claims, highlighted the fact that another user who goes by the handle @OmahBloke made a similar joke a year before Anya did. In fact, the individual also reposted the clip, writing to the show’s X account:
“You will be hearing from my lawyer very soon!!! @TheBoysTV”
Many others also raised similar points, with some arguing Anya’s claim as the joke’s originator wasn’t valid, while others commented on the irony that a feminist is being so vocal about claiming an inherently misogynist joke.
It does not appear the studios nor Anya has said anything further about the matter at this time.
