Afro Beats Singer Davido Criticizes His Ex For Referencing The Drowning Death Of His 3-Year-Old Son In Custody Case For Their 9-Year-Old Daughter
Afro singer Davido’s ongoing custody battle is leaking out in the public.
The musician took to his social media to call out his child’s mother Sophia Momodu recently, blasting her for allegedly referencing the death of his young son in a case for potential joint custody of their 9-year-old daughter.
Davido, real name David Adedeji Adeleke, 31, addressed the matter on his X (formerly Twitter) account, writing:
“Your constantly bringing up the death of my child at any point u can to just remind us of this tragedy that haunts us everyday of our lives .. Imade will grow up to see I fought for her .. as for now u can have her .. P.S she won’t be a child forever .. enjoy Imade Aurora Adeleke ! Your father loves you!”
He added:
“All I asked for was ‘joint custody’ but cus it’s davido yall wanna act like yall can’t read! SMH I’m off this … yall be blessed and I pray this never happens to you”
In a follow up-post, the “Dami Duroz” singer shared a message from another user that suggested his child’s mother, Sophia Momodu, 37, fought his request for joint custody. The post read:
“There are many illiterates on this app so let me explain. Joint custody – Both parents will have access to the child. Sole custody – Only a single parent will have access to the child. Davido asked for a joint custody so tell me what’s bad there”
Reports about the matter claim that Davido and Sophia Momodu have been back in forth in court lately over custody of 9-year-old Imade. Last month, the Afro-beats artist reportedly petitioned the court seeking joint custody of the child, which judging by his recent posts, seems to have been denied.
In a court hearing this past Friday (July 5th), Sophia Momodu reportedly argued to a Lagos State High Court why the custody petition from Davido should be rejected, claiming that due to the nature of his career as an international singer, he “cannot possibly be with our daughter at crucial times.” She reportedly added other concerns, writing:
“The Applicant is married to another woman, and they live together. The proper upbringing of our daughter by another cannot be guaranteed”
Additionally, it’s reported that Momodu cited the death of Davido’s 3-year-old son in the motion. If you recall, the singer’s child, Ifeanyi Adeleke – who he shares with wife Chioma Rowland, tragically drowned in the family pool back in 2022. Adding the tragedy to her list of concerns, Momodu reportedly wrote:
“The fact that the Applicant lost his son in his house in rather unfortunate and questionable circumstances shows that our daughter cannot be placed in the custody of the Applicant”
It does not appear that Momodu has addressed the matter publicly at this time.
