Bernice King Calls Out Donald Trump For Falsely Comparing His Speech Attendance Numbers To Martin Luther King Jr.’s

The youngest daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. isn’t here for Donald Trump misrepresenting her late father.

Dr. Bernice King recently called out the former U.S. president for making untruthful comparisons between him and the famed civil rights activist.

Dr. Bernice King took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the matter yesterday (Wednesday, August 8th). Responding to one news report that stated Donald Trump “claims his crowds are larger than Martin Luther King Jr.’s”, she wrote:

“Absolutely not true. I really wish that people would stop using my father to support fallacy.”

In another post, Dr. Bernice King shared an image of the crowd at her father’s famed “I Have A Dream” speech, which is estimated to have drawn a crowd of 200,000 – 300,000 people. The event is widely considered one of the most prominent moments of the civil rights movement.

Donald Trump reportedly first made the comparison during a news conference this past Thursday (August 8th) at his Mar-A-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida. The 45th president, who’s currently hoping to land another 4 years against Kamala Harris come November, was alleging that his January 6th 2021, “Stop the Steal” Rally saw bigger attendance numbers than the 1963 March On Washington. He stated:

“The biggest crowd I’ve ever spoken to — I’ve spoken to the biggest crowds. Nobody’s spoken to crowds bigger than me….If you look at Martin Luther King, when he did his speech, his great speech, and you look at ours, same real estate, same everything, the same number of people, if not, we had more…They said he had a million people, but I had 25,000 people.”

He continued:

“But when you look at the exact same picture, and everything’s the same because it was the fountains, the whole thing all the way back to… from Lincoln to Washington. And you look at it, and you look at the picture of his crowd (and) my crowd, we actually had more people. They said I had 25,000 and he had a million people, and I’m OK with it because I liked Dr. Martin Luther King.”

The report notes that despite Trump’s claims, according to Business Insider, MLK’s speech drew an estimated 250,000 people to the Washington monument, while Trump’s speech, according to USA Today, drew around 53,000. It does not appear he has responded to Bernice King’s post at this time.
