Issa Rae Explains Why She Has ‘No Desire For A Reboot Of Insecure’
Despite the endless demands for another go-around, Issa Rae is not spinning the block on Insecure.
Fans of the popular Max (formerly HBO Max) series have been begging for the show to be revived ever since the series finale aired on December 26, 2021. There have even been whispers of a possible movie involving the cast coming soon. In March, Yvonne Orji (who portrays Molly Carter on the show) shut down those rumors, but hinted there may be a chance for the cast to come back together again years from now, expressing,
“Listen, we had an amazing run. We have an amazing relationship, the entire cast. So, I love them. If anything, I think it’d be a 25-year-reunion.”
Be sure to keep your fingers crossed for an Insecure reunion in 2049 because that might be all we can hope for. It’s not uncommon for a series to make a comeback as a reboot or reimagined version decades after going off air. However, during a recent interview with Carmelo Anthony and The Kid Mero for the 7pm In Brooklyn podcast, Issa Rae, the mastermind behind Insecure, shared why she doesn’t want her show rebooted even after an extended amount of time has passed.

When asked if she’d be open to rebooting Insecure 20 years from now with an entirely new cast and feel, similar to how The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was shifted into Bel-Air, Issa Rae made it clear that’s not happening.
“How would I feel about that? If they want to reboot Insecure with a whole new cast? — No, it’s so personal to me.”
She continued,
“That is like, I feel like Larry David, nobody else can do Curb Your Enthusiasm ’cause that’s his sh*t and his gripes. So I would almost feel like, f*ck that. It would almost feel like the AI voice of Beyoncé. I’m like, no, that’s my sh*t and those were my experiences. If they wanted to create something else then sure, but no, I have no desire for a reboot of Insecure.”
@7pminbrooklyn “It’s so personal to me.” Issa Rae gives her thoughts on a potential Insecure reboot
Insecure premiered on October 9, 2016, and ran for five seasons. It didn’t take long for the show to become a fan favorite and earn its spot in the Black Pop Culture Hall of Fame. Years after the show wrapped, people still praise the series for its storylines, character development, comedy, and overall message. It’s a no-brainer as to why fans of Issa Rae and Insecure are demanding more!
