Tia Mowry Says ‘Distance’ From Twin Sister Tamera Mowry Stems From Them ‘Creating Their Own Families’

Tia Mowry is keeping it candid on why she feels she’s not as close as she once was with her twin sister Tamera Mowry.

As reported, the Sister, Sister star recently made headlines after she expressed during a trailer for her new WeTV reality show Tia Mowry: My Next Act that she wished she and Tamera Mowry “were still close.” She previously shared,

“[I wish] I could pick up the phone and call her, but that’s just not where we are right now.”

Now, Tia Mowry, 46, is opening up about how the dynamics of their relationship have changed over the years. In a new interview with PEOPLE, Tia Mowry addressed her comments about her current bond with Tamera Mowry. Speaking on the emotions she felt while filming the vulnerable scene, she said,

“I’m just wanting a hug, you know what I mean? That’s what I’m referring to.”

Tia also mentioned what caused the “distance” between her and Tamera, explaining,

“You start as siblings in a household and a family, and as we grow up and start our own families, it is very normal for all of us to take on new roles and responsibilities when it comes to our life. My sister has a family of her own…I guess what I’m saying is it’s normal. It’s very natural for us to create lives for ourselves.”

Emphasizing that there will always be love between them no matter what, Tia went on,

“There’s so much love there. There’s this beautiful bonding connection that we have that will never leave. My sister and I have always been women of inspiration, and we will continue to. And why would that change now?”

She furthered,

“I think we’ve shown who we are as people and our integrity. It’s just a part of life. People have started to create their own families. It is what it is and that’s okay. There’s no hard feelings.”
