John Amos Wanted Daughter Shannon To Find Out About His Death w/ ‘The Rest Of The World’, Publicist Says He Was ‘Concerned’ She’d Turn It Into ‘A Circus’
The fallout between John Amos’ family members continues after his passing.
The legendary actor’s son Kelly Christopher “K.C.” Amos announced his death earlier this week. Since then, his family has raised concerns about his final days, specifically with K.C. Amos’ alleged conduct in his final days. His daughter Shannon Amos also revealed that she found out about his death along with the public over a month after he died.
Though a death certificate said he died of congestive heart failure, a statement from John Amos’ goddaughter Amy Goudy on behalf of herself and Shannon Amos said they felt there was something off about his death, especially with him being cremated.
Now, Belinda Foster, who was John Amos’ publicist for over 30 years, has issued a statement to set the record straight.
“Shannon’s claims that John was abused are false,” Foster told People Magazine. “K.C., Eugene and I, along with numerous others cared for him. On several occasions when Shannon claimed that he was abused, law enforcement authorities sat with John and confirmed his well being.”
Foster then revealed that Shannon Amos finding out about his death in the media was John’s wish.
She said, “At the time of his death, John was concerned that Shannon might turn his death and interment into a circus as she had done with other aspects of his life. It was John who requested the delay in announcing his death to Shannon and the rest of the world.”
Foster added that she is “sorry that Shannon has chosen this path, but consistent with John’s approach, I will respond to her with firmness but compassion.”
“For the sake of preserving John’s well-earned reputation as a superb actor and a community activist, we hope we can put to rest these nonsensical claims that Shannon is offering out of her own pain as a result of estrangement from her father.”
Continued prayers for John Amos’ loved ones.
