Charles Barkley Shares Unfiltered Thoughts On Dwyane Wade’s Miami Heat Statue: ‘That Thing Is Awful’
Safe to say Charles Barkley isn’t a fan of Dwyane Wade’s Miami Heat statue.
During yesterday’s episode of TNT’s “Tip-Off” (Tuesday, Oct. 29), the retired NBA star acknowledged that while the sculpture is a “great honor,” its lack of resemblance to Wade should be enough for it to be removed.
He stated:
“It’s a great honor but they gotta take that thing down.”
And added:
“If you made an ugly statue that’s what it would look like. That thing is awful.”

Barkley furthered that the Wade replica was “so bad they had to put all his stats behind it so you know who it was,” fueling opinions that have already been circulating online.
When the statue was unveiled earlier this week, the internet blew up with criticisms and disappointment. Many argue the sculpture isn’t befitting of Wade, who played for the team for 13 years and brought them 3 NBA championships.
Wade himself has responded to the public backlash, sharing that the artwork was an “artistic” interpretation and that he’s more concerned with receiving the honor, stating:
“The social media world is about opinions… Please talk more about us…We don’t care.”
He added:
“If I wanted it to look like me, I’d just stand outside the arena and y’all can take photos…I don’t know a lot of people with a statue. Do you?”
