Whoopi Goldberg had a bittersweet birthday celebration on The View after alleging a Staten Island bakery initially refused her order for birthday treats due to her political views.
During Wednesday’s broadcast, Whoopi Goldberg shared her love for Charlotte Russe—a nostalgic dessert her mother adored—but dropped a surprising claim: “
The place that made these refused to make them for me…perhaps they did not like my politics They said that their ovens had gone down, all kinds of stuff, but folks went and got them anyway,” hinting that the rejection might not have been about technical issues.
Holtermann’s Bakery, identified as the business in question, quickly addressed the situation, with owner Jill Holtermann telling EW, “It was not because of political” affiliations but due to boiler troubles. Holtermann explained, “I said to Whoopi, ‘I can’t do it right now… We have so many things going on with my boiler.’” Despite these issues, she ultimately made about 50 Charlotte Russe treats, which were picked up for the broadcast.
