Jay-Z’s Team Roc Sues Kansas City Police Department Over Alleged Corruption & Misconduct
JAY-Z’s Team ROC is suing the Kansas City Police Department for failing to produce documents related to allegations of police corruption and misconduct.
On November 19, Team ROC and the Midwest Innocence Project (MIP) filed a lawsuit after their request for public records from the KCPD and local government was ignored. The documents in question are said to involve a “longstanding” pattern of police misconduct, which the lawsuit claims the city and police department have intentionally withheld.

The legal filing argues that the KCPD has provided “zero documents” related to complaints or investigations, while instead charging over $2,200 for unrelated materials in an apparent attempt to discourage the request. The lawsuit also highlights the severe impact on Kansas City residents, including allegations of wrongful convictions, police brutality, and even deaths.
Team ROC managing director Dania Diaz stated,
“We have to set a precedent that transparency and accountability are non-negotiable. Getting access to those materials is critical to exposing the corruption, reforming local policies, and helping the local community heal.”
