Kim Kardashian Urges California Governor To Raise Pay Up From $1 An Hour For Volunteer Incarcerated Firefighters Helping Wildfire Efforts
Kim Kardashian recently penned an open letter to California Governor Gavin Newsom, urging him to sign legislation that would increase the pay for incarcerated volunteer firefighters.
In several posts shared on her Instagram story, the SKIMS founder wrote:
“Across all five fires in Los Angeles, there are hundreds of incarcerated firefighters risking their lives to save us… They get paid almost nothing, risk their lives, and some have died to prove to the community that they have changed.”

She continued:
“Incarcerated firefighters have been paid $1/hour to risk their lives, and this pay has remained the same since 1984… I am urging @cagovernor to do what no governor has done in four decades, raise the pay for incarcerated firefighters to a rate [that] honors the human beings risking their lives to save our homes.”
Kim, who has been an advocate for prison reform in recent years, also thanked the inmates for their contributions, as well as the formerly incarcerated firefighters who helped save her community amid the ongoing wildfires that continue to devastate Los Angeles and surrounding areas.
