UPDATE: Israeli Government Approves Ceasefire Deal, Hostages To Be Released Sunday
Update (Jan. 17, 2025): The Israeli government has officially approved the ceasefire deal, ABC News reports.
“The government has approved the outline for the return of the abductees,” the government said in a statement. “The outline for the release of the abductees will come into effect on Sunday, January 19, 2025.”
This comes hours after the Israeli cabinet approved the a six-week ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Further negotiations between Israel and Hamas are needed before the war can officially end.
Original Story (Jan. 15, 2025): Amazing news out of the Middle East! A ceasefire agreement has finally been reached to end 15 months of fighting in Gaza, with both Hamas and Israeli officials reportedly confirming the deal.
This historic agreement will free numerous hostages from Gaza and Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons, offering a much-needed break from the violence that has ravaged the region since a truce expired in December 2023.
Talks, brokered by the U.S., Qatar, and Egypt, culminated in this deal, which comes after weeks of intense negotiations. Sources report that the agreement is set to begin soon, with the first hostages expected to be released as early as Sunday (Jan. 19).

This reported ceasefire follows years of devastating conflict. Amid mounting pressure from the international community, Israel and Hamas have reportedly agreed to this deal as part of efforts to address ongoing violence and the humanitarian crisis happening in the region.
