Jussie Smollett Settles w/ City Of Chicago Following Hate Crime Hoax, Pays $50,000 To Charity w/ No Admission Of Guilt

It’s finally over!

Jussie Smollett has reached a deal with the city of Chicago. Instead of paying over $120,000 in restitution for the 2019 hate crime hoax investigation, he has agreed to donate $50,000 to a local charity.

According to TMZ, Jussie chose the Building Better Futures Center for the Arts, a Chicago-based organization focused on mental health, music, art, and acting programs for underprivileged youth.

Chicago filed a civil lawsuit against him over the owed restitution after reportedly spending a pretty penny investigating Jussie’s hate crime allegations. The case dragged on for six years, but now, both sides have decided to settle. Jussie has already made the donation. However, a judge still needs to approve the deal for it to become official.

The actor maintains this is not an admission of guilt. As reported, Jussie made headlines for staging his own hate attack. He was convicted of 5 felonies; however, thanks to a plea deal, that was eventually overturned.

Jussie’s donation qualifies as a tax write-off. Meanwhile, the city is left to cover the remaining costs of the investigation.

Do you think Jussie got off easy, or is this a fair ending to the case?
