Donald Trump Says He’ll ‘Take A Look’ At Pardons For Men Convicted Of Plotting To Kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer
Donald Trump says he’s open to possibly pardoning the men convicted of plotting to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday (May 28), the President said:
“I will take a look at it. It’s been brought to my attention.”
He added,
“I did watch the trial. It looked to me like somewhat of a railroad job … You know, they were drinking, and I think they said stupid things, but I’ll take a look at that.”

In 2020, over a dozen men were charged in a domestic terrorism case for plotting to kidnap Governor Whitmer, a Democrat, over her COVID-19 restrictions.
The ringleaders, Barry Croft Jr. and Adam Fox, were convicted in federal court and sentenced to over 19 and 16 years in prison, respectively.
At the time, Whitmer blamed Trump’s rhetoric for emboldening militia groups:
“He refused to condemn white supremacists and hate groups like these two Michigan militia groups … When our leaders meet with, encourage, or fraternize with domestic terrorists, they legitimize their actions and they are complicit.”
