‘Love Island USA’ Star Yulissa Escobar Apologizes After Racial Slur Resurfaced & Season 2 Exit: ‘I Take Full Ownership Of My Actions’

Yulissa Escobar, a contestant on Season 7 of “Love Island USA,” has publicly apologized after being removed from the villa over resurfaced podcast clips in which she used a racial slur.

“In those clips, I used a word I never should’ve used, a racial slur,” she admitted in an Instagram statement. “I wasn’t trying to be offensive or harmful, but I recognize now that intention doesn’t excuse impact.”

Escobar said she spoke “ignorantly” and without understanding “the weight, history, or pain behind it,” but emphasized, “I didn’t know better then, but I do now.”

Escobar was eliminated in Episode 2, shortly after fans unearthed the clips and vowed to vote her off. The videos reportedly show her using the N-word multiple times while discussing past relationships.

“There have also been fake statements circulating… I’m choosing to speak for myself,” she wrote. “I take full ownership of my actions. I am sorry.”

What are your thoughts on the apology?
