Eminem Wanted Mariah Carey To Play His Mom In ‘8 Mile,’ Producer Claims: ‘She Did Not Like That Sh*t At All’
Eminem allegedly wanted Mariah Carey to play his mother in 8 Mile.
According to music producer Damion “Damizza” Young, the rapper wanted Carey to take on the role, even though she’s only four years older than him. On the TFU Podcast, Young said, “I go to Mariah, and I’m like, ‘Look, Eminem wants to meet you,’ and she’s like, ‘No.’” But once she found out it was for a movie, she asked for Eminem’s number.

Young said he warned Em, “Don’t do this. I know where you’re going with this. I’m managing this girl, and it’s gonna cause me a problem.” Eminem reportedly replied, “No, I genuinely want her in the movie.”
When all three eventually got on a call, Young claims Eminem told Carey, “I want you to play my mother.” He added, “She did not like that sh*t at all. Her insecurities kicked in big time.”
Kim Basinger ultimately played the role, and 8 Mile went on to earn Eminem an Oscar for Best Original Song with “Lose Yourself.”
