Rep. Jasmine Crockett Drops Out Of Race For Top Democrat On House Oversight Committee
Jasmine Crockett stepped back from her bid to become the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee.
The Texas congresswoman confirmed she dropped out of the race for ranking member after realizing she didn’t have enough support from her colleagues. Crockett told reporters:
“It was clear by the numbers that my style of leadership was not exactly what they were looking for, and so I didn’t think that it was fair for me to then push forward and try to rebuke that.”

House Democrats ultimately chose Robert Garcia of California for the position during a closed-door vote on Tuesday (June 24). Crockett hinted that she came in last, adding:
“They were clear that I was the one that made the least sense in their minds. I accept that.”
Crockett has been a vocal presence on the committee and says she still plans to be “loud and proud” and a “team player” for Democrats.
