Michael Jackson Estate Defends Paying Lawyers $625K After Paris Jackson Raises Concerns

Paris Jackson has raised questions about how her late father’s estate is spending money, and they’re pushing back.

In new court documents filed July 15, the estate responded to Paris’s concerns over $625,000 in “premium payouts” made to three law firms in 2018 for unrecorded attorney time.

They said the payments were justified. “The attorneys were instrumental and critical in assisting and supporting the Executors in achieving unprecedented results for the Estate,” they argued, citing a $287 million return on the estate’s EMI investment.

The estate also added that lawyers like Mr. Weitzman and Mr. Katz brought “experience, negotiating skills, relationships, and knowledge of the entertainment and international music publishing and recording businesses,” and should not be “fairly compensated by an hourly rate fee payment” alone.

A court hearing on the issue is expected on Wednesday, July 17.
