Sterling K. Brown Jokes About Longstanding Feud w/ His Mother-In-Law: ‘Everybody Likes Me Except for Her’
Sterling K. Brown is finding the humor in his complicated relationship with his mother-in-law.
While promoting his hit Hulu series Paradise on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the actor opened up about attending his wife’s family reunion… and the awkward tension that followed.
“My mother-in-law historically does not like me,” Brown admitted. “But the rest of the family actually likes me a lot. So, it’s fun to be around a family where she’s like upset the whole time that everybody likes me except for her.”

Despite their rocky history, Brown shared things have gotten better over the years… especially since he and wife Ryan Michelle Bathe had kids.
“I gave her grandchildren; so she’s happy about that,” he joked, adding that she was even a fan of his latest project. “She was very complimentary about Paradise. She was like, ‘Sterling, this is a really good show. I like it a lot.’ So we’re turning a corner.”
Brown previously shared that the drama dates back to his college days, saying his mother-in-law once told her daughter to “stay away from that boy,” after seeing him in character for a play at Stanford.
