Issa Rae Sued Over ‘One Of Them Days’ Movie, Writers Claim She Stole Their Script
Issa Rae is facing accusations from three screenwriters who claim her movie One of Them Days is a ripoff of their 2020 script One of Those Days.
According to All Hip Hop, Joshua Isaacson, Shon Oku, and Tyrone Perry filed a lawsuit on July 30 against Issa Rae’s ColorCreative, Sony Pictures, TriStar, and screenwriter Syreeta Singleton, alleging copyright infringement. They claim One of Them Days copies their “plot, characters, and underlying story structure,” and accuse Rae’s team of having “misappropriated Plaintiffs’ original expression and passed it off as their own without authorization, credit, or compensation.”
The writers say they first shared their script with a producer in late 2023, and again in April 2024 with executives at Green Eggs Go H.A.M., a company co-founded by a former Insecure producer. Just weeks later, Rae’s film was announced… a timeline the plaintiffs argue is too close to be a coincidence.
With Issa’s movie starring Keke Palmer and SZA bringing in over $51 million on a $14 million budget, the writers are now seeking a jury trial, damages, and attorneys’ fees.
