‘Living Single’ Star Kim Coles Says Producers Threatened Her w/ Fat Jokes If She Didn’t Lose Weight
Actress Kim Coles recently opened up about one of the more difficult moments during her time on Living Single.
While speaking to her former co-star Erika Alexander on their podcast Re-Living Single, Kim revealed that producers would contact her manager at the start of each new season, urging her to lose weight.
Although she admitted to struggling with insecurities about her body, Kim said it wasn’t until co-star Queen Latifah stepped in that the behind-the-scenes conversations about her weight were finally shut down. Before that, Kim shared that producers even threatened her with fat jokes to pressure her into slimming down.

“They threatened me and said, ‘You keep gaining weight, we’re gonna have to start writing fat jokes,’” she recalled. According to Kim, the producers tried to justify the decision by saying it wouldn’t make sense for her character to gain weight without anyone acknowledging it.
Kim also revealed that Erika stood firmly by her side and refused to participate in any fat jokes. Confirming what went down, Erika added: “No. Who’s gonna say them?”
What are your thoughts on Kim’s experience and the support she got from her co-stars?
