Marlon Wayans Talks Physical Transformation & Stepping Away From Comedy For New Thriller ‘HIM’: ‘You Assign Me Greatness, I’m Gonna Get It’
After decades of comedy hits, dramatic turns, and genre-bending performances, Marlon Wayans is pushing his acting capabilities further than ever before.
The 53-year-old TV and movie star is entering a bold new chapter with HIM, a psychological football thriller produced by Jordan Peele, where he stars as legendary quarterback Isaiah “Ze” White. To prepare, Marlon revealed he packed on 20 pounds of muscle and committed to a full-body transformation.
“It was me owning the character, doing the work it takes to be great,” he expressed in an interview with Esquire.

Despite coming from one of comedy’s most iconic families, Marlon hopes to continue breaking expectations with this new role. Reflecting on what HIM means for his legacy, he shared: “I’ve always wanted to have a career where they go, ‘What do you do with a guy who can do everything?… Where you trust him and believe him in whatever role you put him in.’”

Marlon and his brother Shawn are officially back at the helm of the Scary Movie franchise, with the sixth installment set to drop next summer. While some industry professionals say the current target audience for HIM skews younger, meaning Marlon might not be able to rely on the cult credibility of White Chicks or the Scary Movie franchise, he isn’t concerned about how his performance will be received. Confident as ever, he stated: “You assign me greatness, I’m gonna get it.”
